Happy Friday the 13th!!!
Hooded Jacket from Vogue Knitting, Early Fall 2010
Here is an early look at the Hooded Jacket I designed for Vogue Knitting, Early Fall 2010. It’s knit out of Rowan by Amy Butler/Westminster Fibers Belle Organic Aran and is a great fair isle project for those lazy summer days and beginners. It has a great hood and can be worn with just a pair of jeans and a white tee. For a complete view, take a look at the VK360 video in the Urban Cowgirls section! The Vogue Knitting, Early Fall 2010 issue hits stands on June 9, 2010! Photo by Rose Callahan.
The Nicholas Rodriguez Sweater Sneak Peek 2
It’s been busy over here at boy meets purl!
Today, I had the talented and handsome Nicholas Rodriguez stop by to take some photos of the sweater we designed together. Even though there was a sneak peek when he was interviewed in The Daily News, The Nicholas Rodriguez Sweater (Sneak Peek), I love a good sequel and no one’s going to complain when he’s the star.

More info on The Nicholas Rodriguez and Haviland Stillwell Sweaters coming very soon!
The Haviland Stillwell Sweater Sneak Peek
Today, the incredible and gorgeous Haviland Stillwell came by my apartment to take some photos in her new sweater! I just want to tease you a little, but don’t worry, the pattern and more info about The Haviland Stillwell Sweater and Haviland herself will be coming very soon!

Plus, I’ve been travelling and knitting furiously so I have lots to share!!!
Make sure you follow boy meets purl on Facebook and Twitter to receive all the latest news, updates, and pattern info!
Irina Shabayeva Fall 2010, and I helped.
After a month and some of being covered in mohair, Irina Shabayeva showed her Fall 2010 collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Here are some shots of the pieces that I made for her collection.
Here’s a wrap that has feathered wings knit in fair isle.

The Feather Coat takes the same fair isled wings and places them on the front and the back of this oversized piece.

Thanks and congratulations to John Brinegar who took some of these great pictures of the show, and knit this stunning directional coat in grey pictured below.

It was an amazing show and a complete honor and pleasure to work with her. To see more pictures of the pieces I made go to boy meets purl facebook page or www.boymeetspurl.com. To check out pictures from Irina’s complete collection take a look here!
Watch this great video!
I also want to thank Vogue Knitting for asking me to be a part of this collaboration. VK will be featuring Irina and these patterns in the Fall VK issue.
This year has been turning out to be quite busy and very exciting. There are 4 new patterns that will be out shortly and a few other tricks I have up my sleeve.

I want to say thanks to Benjamin Solomon for doing a little article this week in his magazine, Next, on a boy who knits! Click here to read the article!

The Nicholas Rodriguez Sweater (Sneak Peek)
An interview with the talented Nicholas Rodriguez in the NY Daily News came out today, and he’s wearing the sweater that we designed together! I wanted to share a quick little sneak peek before the pattern and story comes out in a few weeks. I hope I can wait that long!

I’m still feverishly knitting away at some pieces for Irina Shabayeva’s runway show for Fashion Week and can’t wait for you all to see them. They are going to be absolutely amazing! Once I am done and can stick my head above the 10,000 yards of mohair in my apartment there will be some other really great projects coming up for both men and women!
Happy New Year!
A Weekend in the Country
On Monday afternoon I returned from my snowed in adventure in my hometown Harrisburg, PA. I went down to visit my family, see some friends that were going to be in town, and attend one of the greatest annual Christmas parties. The party was to take place on Saturday and in true James and Steve fashion (the party throwers), the 12″+ snow fall didn’t stop the festivities from happening.
There are people in your life that no matter how much time has passed will always be your friend and you will always be grateful for the impact they have had on your life. It has been almost 10+ years that I have seen some of these friends and it feels like no time had passed and we were all still living in the same town. It’s amazing to see that they are all still the great, fun, and ever supporting people you remember. Every once and awhile you need the encouragement and a good kick in the ass to keep you motivated.
With that said, there have been some huge developments in some other projects I have been working on. I am so lucky to know some extremely talented artists and have joined forces with them to launch a line of patterns that reflect there personality and talents. Two of the actors that will be featured first are Nicholas Rodriguez and Haviland Stillwell.
We’ll be then selling these patterns on my website, www.boymeetspurl.com, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the charity of their choosing. Stay tuned for more details and in depth postings about each of these amazingly talented actors and their sweater designs. Believe me it’s going to be absolutely fantastic!
And if that wasn’t enough, I got a call from my friends at Vogue Knitting asking me if I could lend a helping hand to Project Runway season 6 winner, Irina Shabayeva. She is designing her Fall 2010 line and putting some of the patterns in an upcoming Vogue Knitting, and I am lucky and honored enough to help knit and construct her vision. It was a great meeting today and she is funny, beautiful, and so talented. There will definitely be more on this! Make sure you become fans of boy meets purl and Vogue Knitting on Facebook for all the latest developments on this great collaboration.
Just a gentle reminder that the Vogue Knitting, Winter 2009/10 comes out on January 5th, featuring 4 designs in the magazine and a small picture of me wearing a sweater that will also be available on January 5th as a downloadable PDF on my website. And all boy meets purl’s designs and patterns can always be found at www.boymeetspurl.com
P.S. I know that the same sweater is in every picture. It’s the BIG Shawl Collar Pullover, my newest pattern and I love it. Yes, Nicholas Rodriguez does look so much better in it!
Thanks and have a great Holiday Season!!!
Vogue Knitting, Winter 2009/10 Preview and a little more…
I am so excited for this new issue of Vogue Knitting to hit the stands on January 5th that I can hardly wait. VK has been doing an absolutely fantastic job of giving us a little sneak peek inside their magazine through their facebook fanpage and making many of us very impatient.
I thought I would share three of the designs that VK leaked already. One of them is a fair isle cardigan for the ladies and two of them are for the guys. There will be one more men’s sweater in the magazine for a total of three men’s wear designs and one other men’s sweater that will be available only through my website, www.boymeetspurl.com, on January 5th.

But wait, there’s more!
Next week starts a new series of blog posts and a new line of patterns. There will be celebrities, charities, and sweaters. That’s all I’m saying for now. Make sure you check back for all the information. Plus, I will be revealing my new “From Poor to Couture” project that will have all the thrift shoppers out there very happy.
The BIG Shawl Collar Pullover
This shawl collar pullover is a great addition to your sweater collection and knits up so quickly. If you haven’t tried short rows yet, this is the perfect pattern for your first time.
Knit it with a self striping yarn to give it a little something extra or use a solid yarn for a more classic feel. The pictured sweater is knit flat to make the striping wider, but can easily be knit in the round for smaller stripes and solid colors.
The yarn is held doubled so you could always use 2 different colors or even use one yarn that gets the gauge.
It’s a perfect pullover to throw on to go out to run errands or have a drink with friends. The big shawl collar is easy to pull on and off your head for those of you that are worried about messing up your hair.
For even more designs and patterns, make sure you visit boy meets purl’s official website.
